Why did my insurance renewal go up?

Common reasons premiums rise even with a clean record, and what you can do about it.

It's often not about you

Rates move with the cost of claims. When car parts, labor and home repair costs go up across the state, carriers raise prices for everyone, even drivers and homeowners who never filed a claim.

Reasons that are about you

  • A recent claim, ticket or accident.
  • A new driver in the household, especially a teen.
  • A discount that dropped off, like a multi-policy or paid-in-full discount.
  • Changes to your home or car, such as an older roof or a new vehicle.

What you can do

  1. Call or text us before the renewal date. We re-shop your coverage with other carriers.
  2. Ask about a higher deductible. It can lower the price if you can cover the difference after a claim.
  3. Check bundling. Home and auto together often earns a discount.
  4. Review coverage you no longer need, like collision on an older car.
Don't let a policy lapse while you shop. A gap in coverage can raise your price for years. We line up the new policy to start the day the old one ends.
